What Tests Does ISTA International Transport Package Include?

- Nov 07, 2019-

It has been dedicated to helping members develop effective packaging, methods, logistics systems, etc

ISTA(International Safe Transit Association) is an International non-profit organization formerly known as NSTA (national Association for Safe Transit). It now has hundreds of prominent freight companies and laboratories worldwide. It has been committed to assist members to develop effective packaging, methods, logistics systems, etc., in order to improve the safety of product transport packaging performance, so as to prevent or reduce the product in the process of transportation and handling losses encountered. The organization has issued a series of standards as well as test procedures and test items as a uniform basis for assessing the safety of shipping packaging.

The ISTA Test protocol, known as ISTA® Test Series, consists of the following:

ISTA 1 series: non-simulation Integrity Performance Tests.Test the strength and robustness of the product and package combination.

Procedure 1A: package the product with a weight of 150 LBS (68 kg) or less

Requirements: fixed frequency vibration, impact (drop/bevel impact/horizontal impact) detection

Program 1B: packaged products weigh more than 150 LBS. (68 kg)

Requirements: fixed frequency vibration, impact (drop/bevel impact/horizontal impact) detection

Procedure 1C: extension test for individual packaged products weighing 150 LBS (68 kg) or less

Requirements: pressure, vibration (fixed frequency vibration/random vibration), impact (drop/bevel impact/horizontal impact) detection

Procedure 1D: extension test for individual packaging products weighing more than 150 LBS (68 kg)

Requirements: pressure, vibration (fixed frequency vibration/random vibration), impact (drop/bevel impact/horizontal impact) test, rotary edge drop

Program 1E: group load

Requirements: vibration (fixed frequency vibration/random vibration), impact (inclined plane impact/horizontal impact), rotary edge drop

Procedure 1G: package product weight 150 LBS (68 kg) or less (swing at will)

Requirements: random vibration, impact (drop/bevel impact/horizontal impact)

Procedure 1H: package products weighing more than 150 LBS (68 kg) (swing at will)

Requirements: random vibration, impact (drop/bevel impact/horizontal impact), rotary edge drop

ISTA 2 series: Partial Simulation Performance Tests.

Procedure 2A: package the product at 150 LBS (68 kg) or less

Requirements: environment, pressure, vibration (fixed frequency vibration/random vibration), impact (drop/inclined plane shock/horizontal shock), vibration (fixed frequency vibration/random vibration)

Procedure 2B: package products weighing more than 150 LBS. (68 kg)

Requirements: environment, pressure, vibration (fixed frequency vibration/random vibration), impact (drop/inclined plane shock/horizontal shock), rotary edge drop, vibration (fixed frequency vibration/random vibration)

Procedure 2C: furniture packaging

Requirements: environment, random vibration of dynamic load stacking, impact (drop/bevel impact/horizontal impact)

Program 2D: considered a flat package product

Requirements: fixed frequency vibration, rotating edge falling, falling, rotating surface falling, dangerous material impact

Procedure 2E: package product to be considered extended

Requirements: fixed frequency vibration, rotary edge drop, drop, rotary surface drop, bridge impact

Procedure 2F: LTL shipment (NMFC Item 180)

Requirements: climate environment, compression/vibration, vibration detection

ISTA 3 series: General Simulation Performance Tests.Test the strength and robustness of the product and package combination.

Procedure 3A: packing product 70 kg (150 LBS) or less (standard, small, flat or extended) for delivery in the package delivery system

Requirements: environment (optional), falling, stacking random vibration, random vibration, impact (standard parts, small parts: falling/flat parts: falling of rotating edge, falling of rotating surface, dangerous material impact/extension parts: falling of rotating edge, falling of rotating surface, bridge impact)

Program 3E: group loads for the same product

Requirements: environment (optional), impact (bevel impact/horizontal impact), rotary edge drop, pressure, random vibration, rotary edge drop

Procedure 3F: 100 LBS. (45 kg) of packaged products for retail shipment at the distribution center

Requirements: environment (optional), drop, pressure, random vibration, drop

Procedure 3H: test the performance of mechanical handling of bulk shipping container products or packaging products

Requirements: environment (optional), horizontal impact, rotary surface drop, rotary edge drop, rotary surface drop, rotary edge drop, random vibration, horizontal impact, rotary surface drop, rotary edge drop, rotary surface drop, rotary edge drop, pressure
