Drop Impact Methods for Packaging Box Or other sample

There are two ways to do drop test of package.Standard test can be divided into two methods

1. It is used to simulate the free fall that non-packaged products may experience during handling. The sample usually falls from the specified height to the specified surface twice in the specified attitude.

2. The second one simulates the repeated free falls that connectors, small remote control devices, etc. attached to cables may undergo during use.Repeatedly drop the test sample from the specified height to the specified surface.It is achieved by using appropriate equipment, such as (rotating) rollers.


Method 1: free fall

1 purpose

Determine the adaptability of the product to fall during handling due to rough handling, or determine the * low firm grade for safety requirements.

This test is mainly used for the test samples that are not packaged, and the test samples whose packaging can be part of the samples in the transport box.

2 test conditions

2.1 test surface

The test surface shall be a smooth, rigid surface of concrete or steel.Where necessary, the relevant specification may prescribe other surfaces.

2.2 drop height

The height between the test surface and the part of the sample near it when the test sample is suspended before falling.

2.3 release method

The method of releasing the test sample shall be such that the test sample is free to fall from the suspended position.When releasing, keep interference * low.

3 severity rating

The drop height should be selected from the following values:

(25), 50, (100), 250, (500), (1000) mm.

The value in brackets is the preferred value.

Note: heavy equipment should not be subjected to higher severity levels.

4 initial detection

Inspect the appearance, electrical and mechanical properties of the samples according to relevant specifications.

5 conditional test

5.1 free fall of samples shall be carried out in the normal posture of transportation and use in accordance with relevant specifications.

5.2 unless otherwise specified in the relevant specification, the test sample shall be dropped twice from each specified position.

6 * after testing

Test samples shall be inspected for appearance, electrical and mechanical properties in accordance with the relevant specifications.

7. Contents of the relevant specifications

When the test is adopted, the following details should be given:

A) test surfaces, if not concrete or rigid (see 2.1);

B) height of drop (see chapter 3);

C) initial testing (see chapter 4);

D) the posture of the test sample at the beginning of falling (see 5.1);

E) number of drops (if not twice) (see 5.2);

F) * post-test (see chapter 6).

Method 2: repeat free fall

8 the purpose

Identify cable-connected component-type devices, such as connectors and small remote controls, that may fall frequently onto a hard surface to withstand repeated falls.

9 general description

The test method is to cause the test sample to fall from the specified height to the hard surface at the specified number of times.To simulate actual conditions, each test sample should be tested separately and usually with a section of cable.The test results should be evaluated by the mechanical and electrical properties of the test samples.

Description of test equipment

According to the requirements of the relevant specifications, the test equipment shall make each test sample drop from the specified height according to the specified number of times.Appendix A, FIG. A1, illustrates A suitable pattern for the use of drum equipment.

11 severity rating

11.1 drop times

The relevant specification shall select the total number of tests from the following values according to the intended use of test samples:

50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 times.

Drop height

Drop height: 500 mm.

Drop frequency

Drops occur about ten times per minute.

11.4 test surface

Unless otherwise specified in the relevant specification, the test sample shall be dropped on a smooth, hard and firm test surface of a 3 mm thick steel plate lined with a wood pad between 10 mm and 19 mm in thickness.

12 initial detection

Test samples shall be inspected for appearance, electrical and mechanical properties in accordance with the relevant specifications.

13 conditional test

The test sample shall be placed in the test equipment and subjected to a specified number of drops.When the test sample contains cable, the specification shall specify the type of cable to be used.Cable length shall be 100 mm unless otherwise specified in the specification.

14 * after testing

Test samples shall be inspected for appearance, electrical and mechanical properties as required by the relevant specifications.

The specifications should state the conditions under which samples are accepted or rejected.

15. What should be given in the relevant specification

When the test is adopted, the following details should be given:

A) initial testing (see chapter 12);

B) number of drops (see 11.1);

C) * post-test (see chapter 14);

D) type of cable to be connected (see chapter 13).
